Digitisation for Timber Rich House Design

The project – led by the Edinburgh Napier University– is funded through the Forestry Commission’s The Wood Products Innovation Fund, designed to investigate four respective areas of research: digitisation, mass timber, wood products for retrofit and sustainable communities pre-manufactured from wood.

Continued development of new information and computer technology in recent years has allowed and is in part driving a fundamental transformation of digitisation the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector.

This project aims to look at how digital processes can be used in the design of timber rich buildings.

The research looks at two different types of timber buildings: a bespoke timber frame off-grid micro dwelling and a standard semi-detached house and explores how digital design processes can be applied to both of these.
